‘LAMENT – Sing An Ode To My Soul: a Journey into the UNKNOWN’ – a collaborative  dance & film  performance of Sandy FLINTO and Tebby W.T. RAMASIKE

This dance work is part 5 of an ongoing interactive multidisciplinary crossover collaborative project under a collective title, “THE WALKING THROUGH: A Journey … A Memory … A Recollection … The Meeting”, which TeBogO Dance – TBO is inviting other creative artists to collaborate with. The idea to create this piece was inspired by a visit to the Nelson Mandela photography exhibition and the Museum national de la Résistance in Esch-sur-Alzette. This dance work does not make or stand for a political statement, but presents a ritualistic ceremonial journey of a man who symbolically represents a society, that is ailing and yearns for a healing and cleansing.

In this appeal and redemption of a soul-bearing ‘warrior’s’ journey, there is a Cry … a cry to be released, to be freed, to be cleansed, to be delivered.

“There is a cry of a man who shall inherit this life. A life that is full of pain and suffering. A cry of a man who yearns for that eternal peace and freedom.”

Tebby Ramasike’s choreographic and story-telling concept is drawn from his cultural and traditional background and experiences, in which he brings forth the African ritualistic dance elements in a fusion with other dance forms, particularly Butoh.

LAMENT – Sing An Ode To My Soul combines this ritualistic work with a challenging video projection by young Luxembourgish artist Sandy Flinto. Dance, video and music are transporting the spectator into that realm of a spiritual renaissance. it is certainly a Lament, but also a Journey into the Unknown!
